ACADEMICS

At Ahlberg Academy, we offer a comprehensive academic program that encompasses all subjects to provide a well-rounded education. Our dedicated staff are committed to fostering an independent, lifelong love of learning.

Truth is a guiding principle at Ahlberg Academy. We teach Latin, debate, computer skills, classical literature, and the arts. Our core curriculum focuses on accurate history, Constitutional civics, and sound economics. Ellen Ahlberg’s eight volume Life in America series spans Creation to current events, interweaving history, Bible, government, economics, composition, speech, geography, vocabulary, and literature in a multi-age format. Famed American teacher and author John Taylor Gatto (Dumbing Us Down, Underground History of American Education) declared of the Ahlberg curricula, “Everyone should be taught this way!”

Our Math curriculum is unlike any method taught in the United States! It integrates with our core curriculum, applying math skills to real-world examples - sidestepping the dreaded question, "When will I ever need to use this?" At Ahlberg Academy, math is conversational - a language accessible to everyone. Math is taught through individual tutorship, at each student’s own pace.

Similarly, our Science curriculum ties directly into math skills and examples from the core subjects to delve deeper into the created world, stimulating curiosity and critical thinking. We emphasize hands-on experiments, personal observation, and research skills, requiring students to evaluate data to form and defend conclusions.

Learning at Ahlberg Academy is both individualized and collaborative. Each student is evaluated for personality traits, IQ, and learning style before they join the classroom, enabling teachers to lead them through lessons effectively.

Our younger students learn by Montessori-style methods and peer mentorship. We teach reading by phonics, and we eschew common core math in favor of proven methods, manipulatives, and conversational reasoning. Our older students learn to research, write, debate, and mentor younger peers. Lessons are interdisciplinary and interlinked, reinforcing deep understanding across all subjects.

Interest drives education for our high school students, who independently delve deeper into material, producing essays, educational videos, and art. Older students become teachers in the classroom, gaining confidence and leadership skills. We help our students discover their passion and plan for the future. Whatever path they choose, we guide and assist them in the process - whether it’s college admissions, entering Bible school and ministry, or securing an apprenticeship in the trades.

All students have access to tutoring whenever needed. We stay in close communication with parents to help evaluate & monitor their child's success. No child is ever left behind, because the outcome we seek is the personal success of each student rather than metrics like test scores. Instead of traditional grade levels based on age, we offer instruction by learning levels. A student who is advanced in reading may be intermediate in math, for example, without pressure or judgement. We have found that students who are allowed to learn at their own pace very often graduate early.
